- iRacing’s recent dev blog outlines future career mode
- Season 4 2026 build will include Caterham 420R, Caterham Academy and Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR-LMH Hypercar
iRacing’s Senior Vice President and Executive Producer, Greg Hill, proffered a whole bunch of new details on the game’s work-in-progress career mode during his latest dev blog.
Career mode will be a single-player experience for the subscription-based sim, starting players on the bottom rung of the motorsport ladder. The goal is to progress through the ranks, facing stiffer competition, longer races, and more championships to reach the pinnacle of a player’s chosen discipline.
The key facet of all this is that iRacing’s entire pool of track and car content will be available in the career mode, whether players ‘own’ the content or not.

Hill said Career Mode will come with ‘zero extra cost’ and be included in a standard iRacing subscription, with no additional track or car purchases required. So, as you progress through your career, cars and tracks become available and unlock, but then become unavailable again once the relevant race or season has been completed in career mode.
Therefore, the unlocked cars and tracks you don’t own will not transfer to the overall iRacing ecosystem. This has long been a bone of contention among career mode sceptics, which has thankfully now been put to rest.

We also know career mode difficulty will be adjustable, and players can get multiple chances to achieve their goals, but it will negatively affect their overall career leaderboard score compared to their peers.
Players can select from one of seven unique career modes, but it won’t ship with sponsor management, a driver/owner system or a team budgets mechanic on day one. Hill does state that iRacing plans to add additional career types and more features over time.
Given the strength of iRacing’s AI, wet weather system and Trading Paints functionality, the prospect of a comprehensive single-player career mode featuring the service’s huge range of cars and tracks is undoubtedly exciting.
However, despite being ‘technology-complete’, Hill couldn’t state an official release date for career mode.
