Houston Weather: Isolated showers and storms Saturday across southeast Texas

  • August 29, 2026

We made it to the weekend and after Friday’s powerful storms this weekend will be mostly hot and humid. Below is a picture that Deborah Rutherford sent in from Houston. This is a shelf cloud. Inside the loop did not get a lot of rain but it did get this cool looking cloud from the strong storms north of the city.

The streak is over:

Thanks in part to the storms Friday Houston did not reach 100° for the first time since August 20th. This ends the consecutive 100 degree day streak at 8. This puts this August in sixth place for the most 100° days in a row. We’ve had 9 100+ degree days so far this year

Saturday Forecast:

Shower and storm chances remain isolated. The best chance to see rain is from 2pm to 7pm. Highs in the mid to upper 90s with feels-like temperatures near 105!

Tracking the tropics:

Tropical Storm Dolly formed Thursday and just as quickly fell apart Friday. Dolly is now a remnant low that has a chance to redevelop as it moves west into the Bahamas. Regardless of development it will bring rain across the Caribbean.

a low chance for tropical development over the next 7 days

I’m also watching a area of development in the Gulf. Right now only a 10% chance of development over the next 7 days. This increase in moisture will bring daily rain chances into Houston next week.

a low chance for tropical development over the next 7 days10 Day Forecast:

How nice is it to see no 100° temperatures in the 10-day forecast? It’s still going to be hot, but at least we’re moving away from the excessive heat. And even better, there’s a chance of rain every day through the middle of next week.
