The Seattle Sounders tied Chicago Fire 2-2 on Saturday afternoon at Lumen Field with goals from Dejan Joveljić (2) and Chicago Fire’s Maren Haile-Selassie and Robert Lewandowski.

The Rave Green started off strong, when Paul Rothrock drew a foul and earned a set-piece for the team in the 2nd minute. Albert Rusnák curved the ball toward the center of the box where Kalani Kossa-Rienzi struck it first-time, skimming the cross-bar to go out for a Chicago goal-kick.

In the 6th minute, Alex Roldan attempted a driven shot from the top of the box, following a header mis-clearance from Chicago, but Chris Brady made the diving effort to prevent the goal.

The Sounders got on the scoresheet early when, in the 12th minute, Kossa-Rienzi found Sebastian Gomez just wide of the box. From there, the midfielder played the ball across the face of the goal for Joveljić to finish first time from point blank range.

The Sounders nearly extended the lead to two in the 20th minute when a Rusnák corner kick found Alex Roldan wide open in the center of the box where the veteran defender laced a beautiful volley that went just wide of the goal.

Chicago Fire had a dangerous counter attack in the 24th minute, finding themselves in a 2-v-2 situation with the Rave Green. Philip Zinckernagel managed to find an opening to take a shot from distance, but Andrew Thomas was there to make the diving save.

Thomas made another great save in the 27th minute when a mis-clearance from the home side found the feet of Dje D’Avilla, who attempted a driven shot at goal. 

Chicago Fire was inches away from tallying an equalizer in the 37th minute when Andrew Gutman found a wide open Zinckernagel running down the center of the box. The forward’s shot was too high, however, hitting the woodwork.

The score leveled one minute later when Lewandowski laid the ball to Maren Haile-Selassie who struck the ball into the right corner of the net.

The 1-1 scoreline did not last long, when, just three minutes into the second half, Joveljić tallied his second goal of the day for the Rave Green. Rusnák found the Serbian striker wide open at the top of the box, where he placed a powerful shot into the top left corner of the goal.

For the first time since May 24, Cristian Roldan subbed in for the Sounders in the 57th minute. 

In the 68th minute, Chicago’s Puso Dithejane received the ball in shooting range. Just when it looked like the forward had an open opportunity to strike at goal, center back Kim Kee-hee came up big with a slide tackle that led the ball out for a corner kick.

Rusnák had an opportunity to score the Sounders’ third of the day in the 81st minute with a strike from the center of the box, but his attempt was blocked.

In the 82nd minute, the Fire equalized again when Dithejane’s cross found Lewandowski on the far post where the striker redirected the ball with his head and into the back of the net.

Fire FC had a chance in the final seconds of the match to come away with three points but an incredible aerial save from Thomas disallowed the potential goal, closing out the match with a 2-2 draw.
