The Tamil Nadu govt college teachers’ pensioners welfare association has urged the state govt to provide interim monthly pension benefits to govt employees and teachers who retired under the contributory pension scheme (CPS) between April 1, 2003, and December 31, 2025. Trichy: The Tamil Nadu govt college teachers’ pensioners welfare association has urged the state govt to provide interim monthly pension benefits to govt employees and teachers who retired under the contributory pension scheme (CPS) between April 1, 2003, and December 31, 2025.The demand was raised at a consultative meeting of the association held on Friday.Speaking to reporters after the meeting, association state president Joseph John and secretary Ravi said govt employees and teachers who retired before April 1, 2003, were covered under the old pension scheme, while those retiring from January 1, 2026, onwards were covered under the Tamil Nadu assured pension scheme (TAPS).However, around 56,000 govt employees and teachers retired during the intervening period when the CPS was in force, they said.The association said around 4,000 retirees were yet to receive their due benefits under the CPS. They should be provided an interim monthly payment until the rules and procedures for implementing TAPS were finalised and announced, the office-bearers demanded.They also said retirees who had already received their full CPS payouts were willing to make the required 10% contribution to avail themselves of TAPS benefits. Such retirees should also be brought under the TAPS framework and provided pension benefits, they urged.
