Fans of Dolly Parton, the queen of country music who died Tuesday, Aug. 25, following a brief battle with cancer, gathered on the rainbow-colored steps of Oak Lawn United Methodist Church tonight (Saturday, Aug. 29) for a vigil in memory and in honor of the woman known not only for decades of hit songs and big blonde wigs and boobs but also for her kindness, her compassion, her philanthropy and her shining spirit.
The vigil was sponsored by OLUMC, The Round-Up Saloon, Pride in Dallas, Texas Gay Rodeo Association, JR’s, Dallas Social Queer Organization and Dallas Voice.
