Buncombe County health officials reported on Sunday that an individual with measles traveled to Asheville while infectious.
Officials did not say what state the person traveled from, but said anyone who was at the Holiday Inn Express, 435 Smokey Park Highway in Asheville on Aug. 26 from 1 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. may have been exposed.
Those exposed should monitor their symptoms until Sept. 16.
The hotel staff has been working to contact everyone who traveled through the hotel during that time.
As of August 27, the U.S. Center for Disease Control has reported 2,887 people have confirmed cases of measles this year. This is the highest number of measles cases reported in the United States since the early 1990s.
Twenty-four cases of measles were identified in North Carolina from December 2025 to February 2026.
