SAN ANTONIO – A West Side homeowner is beginning cleanup efforts after storms swept through the San Antonio area, leaving widespread damage across the city.
Maria Salazar, who lives near Merida Street and South Zarzamora Street, said multiple trees fell and damaged her home during the storms. She said three people have already come to her home to provide repair estimates.
“The only fortunate part is that we’re safe and we’re here; we are good. My kids were safe. It didn’t hit the vehicles,” Salazar said. “Everything fell, and luckily, it was trying to miss our house, but it nicked us.”
Salazar said she is worried about how much storm repairs are going to cost.
“I just see dollars, like, oh my God, money, you know?” Salazar said. “Where’s the money gonna come from?”
On Sunday, San Antonio officials said they have already collected 24 tons of storm debris since Friday night, with cleanup efforts continuing across the city.
The storms also turned deadly. Two people were swept away by rapidly moving floodwaters Friday night, San Antonio Police Department Acting Chief Jesse Salame said during a Sunday news conference.
Both were carried several blocks downstream before one person was able to get out of the water in the downtown area.

On Saturday, a 46-year-old woman was found dead near Quincy Street, and a man in his 50s was found dead at Woodlawn Lake. Both deaths are being investigated as drownings, Salame said.
“Unfortunately, those are two very tragic events, and our thoughts are with the victims and their loved ones during their time of loss,” Salame said.
As of Sunday afternoon, more than 10,000 CPS Energy customers remain without power — down significantly from the more than 25,000 outages reported Sunday morning.
“We’re all working as quickly as possible to ensure that folks have the power that they need,” Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones said Sunday.
Residents who need cleanup assistance can call 311.
