As students settle into the fall semester, the UTA Department of Theatre Arts and Dance is gearing up for a busy season of shows and performances.
Here a list of shows students and residents can go to this fall:
‘Dance Nation’
The play, written by Clare Barron, focuses on a troupe of competitive dancers fighting their way to the top of nationals in Tampa Bay and is a coproduction performed with Second Thought Theatre. Enjoy the play from Sep. 16 through Oct. 3 at Second Thought Theatre in Dallas. Tickets are available on the company’s website for $32 per person.
‘Spring Awakening’
The play centers around 19th century German teens exploring their sexuality and repression through a contemporary rock score with music by Duncan Sheik and lyrics by Steven Sater. The show will run from Sep. 10-27 at Theatre Three in Dallas in collaboration with UTA. Tickets are available for purchase for $40 and $37 for seniors.
‘Into The Woods’
The musical is inspired by numerous Brothers Grimm fairy tales and includes music and lyrics from Stephen Sondheim. The show will run from Oct. 21-25 at the UTA MainStage Theatre in the Fine Arts Building. No tickets are required to see the show, but a $10 donation is suggested.
‘Waiting For Lefty’
Written by Clifford Odets, the one-act play will feature a group of taxi drivers debating a potential union strike during the Great Depression. The play will run from Nov. 6-7 at Studio Theatre.
