Woman killed in wrong-way crash on Eastex Freeway (KPRC2/Click2Houston.com)
HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – Alfredo Cartagena is in the Harris County Jail with a $150,000 bond. Investigators charged him with intoxicated manslaughter. Court documents show that Cartagena is also under an ICE hold for an immigration violation.
According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, Cartagena was intoxicated when he drove southbound in the northbound lanes of the Eastex Freeway early Saturday morning.
27-year-old Kelsey Gomez was killed when Cartagena’s truck hit her car head on.
911 calls came in a little after 1:45 a.m. Saturday morning saying that a vehicle was the wrong direction in the northbound lanes. A few minutes later, callers reported the vehicle had crashed.
Cartagena was taken to a local hospital for treatment. He is due back in court in October.
