ARLINGTON — The second-to-last homestand of the regular season began with a bullpen line shift.
The Texas Rangers placed right-handed relief pitchers Cole Winn (rotator cuff strain) and Peyton Gray (elbow inflammation) on the injured list prior to Monday’s series opener vs. the Athletics at Globe Life Field. The rookie duo of left-handed pitcher Robby Ahlstrom and right-handed pitcher Ben Peoples — both of whom were optioned to he minor leagues within the last two weeks — were recalled in their place.
Winn has a 5.63 ERA in 51 games this season and missed two weeks of the first half with right arm fatigue. Gray, a 30-year-old rookie, has been one of the club’s unexpected surprises this season and has a 3.93 ERA in 48 games. Rangers manager Skip Schumaker doesn’t believe either injury is season-ending with less than a month’s worth of games to play.
