Miley Cyrus appears to be dropping her famous last name, based on hints on social media.
On Aug. 31, she debuted a new handle on her social media that just reads “miley” instead of her first and last name.
Along with the name change was a red-toned photo of Cyrus and in the post, she put in the caption “MILEY” in all caps.

The name change came just a day before she announced her newest album, “Bass Persuades,” available September 18.
“Music takes hold of us. We feel it, sing it, sometimes dance to it, let it out and carry on. It is powerful, vulnerable, sweet and strong,” she wrote on Instagram. “Heart full, heartache, every part of life in between. That’s what the title means to me.”
She added, “Thank you for being a part of making my wildest dreams come true. I sincerely hope you love this album,” signing off with a red heart emoji and her name.
Miley also shared a video of her rocking out with an electric guitar, teasing what the music will sound like.
In addition to the album, Miley announced two shows at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles this October.
“It’s been a while. The Hollywood Bowl is my favorite place to experience music and see my favorite artists. I’ve sat in those seats many times, but I’ve never taken the stage. LA is my heart and I’m bringing it home. See you there,” she wrote.
Some fans wondered if Miley dropping her last name was a dig at her dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, with whom she’s been feuding for the past few years.
But Miley said on the “Reclaiming” podcast last year, “Half of us weren’t speaking to each other at one point and we cleaned it all up,” adding, “I watched what happens when you don’t clean things up as they’re happening.”
