Dallas-Fort Worth could see its first day of measurable rain this week after a dry streak that has lasted more than 47 days.
Tropical Storm Edouard made landfall Tuesday afternoon near the Texas-Louisiana border, tracking northwest up Interstate 45 and heading toward North Texas. Shortly after making landfall, the storm was downgraded to a tropical depression but was still packing strong wind gusts and the potential to dump several inches of rain as it moved northward.
Forecasters with the weather service said there is a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms Wednesday after 1 p.m. Dallas-Fort Worth will see its highest chance of rain due to the tropical system Wednesday night into Thursday, according to the weather service.
Wednesday’s high will dip below triple digits to 97 degrees, with a low of 79. Due to the increased moisture from the Gulf, the heat index is forecast near 104 degrees.
North Texans can also expect to see widespread clouds Wednesday, increasing throughout the afternoon into early Thursday.
The break from the triple-digit heat is not expected to last for long though, as 100-degree days are set to return for the upcoming Labor Day weekend.
