Police are looking for a woman who allegedly tried to pull a 6-year-old girl away from her mother in Upper Manhattan.
The incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. on July 29 at the Inwood-207th Street subway station, according to police. Camila Heras was standing next to her mom, Valeria Correa, who was multitasking at the station mezzanine as she held her younger son and was preparing to pay at the turnstile.
That’s when the suspect came up from behind and grabbed the child.
“I was scared,” Camila told NBC New York. “The girl take me and hugged me so hard and tried to push me down the little things that turn.”
The woman took Camila by the arms and tried to run off with her into the subway, but the little girl told News 4 the turnstile wouldn’t open.
Correa said she told the woman to let go of her daughter.
The suspect, who has not yet been identified, got away on a southbound A train. Camila recalled the woman saying “sorry” twice before she got away.
EMS treated the girl on scene, but no injuries were reported.
“I was thinking that I won’t see my mom anymore,” Camila said of the scary ordeal. “I’m scared when I go in the train and hold onto mom because I don’t want that to happen again.”
