Biscuit wandered onto her dad’s doorstep when she was just a few months old, hoping he’d adopt her. That was around seven years ago, and she’s been a beloved member of the family ever since.
The sweet orange cat lived a typical life for years. Then one day, something unexpected happened: Her nose started to grow.
Biscuit got a fungal infection called cryptococcosis. It’s usually very treatable, but for some reason, Biscuit’s case was different. Not only did she get incredibly sick, but her nose also grew and grew. She needed a feeding tube to help her eat. Her parents and veterinary team worked tirelessly to figure out what was going on and how best to treat her.
Eventually, the team found the right combination of medications, and slowly but surely, Biscuit began to get better. The fungal levels in her body decreased — but for some reason, her nose stayed big.
“Biscuit’s veterinary team is the best, and they’ve been involved in her care for years now,” Biscuit’s parents wrote on Instagram. “The swelling on her nose is from her fungal infection growing and forming scar tissue.”
Due to several different factors, Biscuit isn’t a candidate for surgery. Her big nose is here to stay, and luckily her family doesn’t mind at all.
“The good news is that she still has a great quality of life, even with her big nose,” her parents wrote. “She can breathe, eat on her own, play, run, purr and give her humans all the love.”
Biscuit’s parents began posting about her journey online, and everyone quickly fell in love with the unique cat and her big nose. Despite her struggles, she’s happy, loved and getting healthier every day. She doesn’t seem to notice she’s any different, and her family continues to help her live her best life every single day.
