More rain ahead? Morning storms followed by another evening round in south-central Pennsylvania
Multiple rounds of storms are expected on Thursday in south-central Pennsylvania, bringing the risk of heavy rain, flash flooding, damaging winds and frequent lightning.
Thursday is an Impact Day, meaning the weather will likely disrupt your normal daily schedule or routine.
Storm timing
- Morning: After a temporary break, thunderstorms will return between 9-11 a.m. Watch for heavy rain, frequent lightning and ponding on the roads.
- Midday through afternoon: A break in the rain is expected, with a mix of clouds and sunshine. Temperatures will climb close to 90 degrees.
- 5 to 10 p.m.: A second round of thunderstorms could develop as a cold front moves into Pennsylvania. Some storms may be strong to severe.
- 10 p.m. to midnight: A few thunderstorms could linger under mostly cloudy skies.
- Overnight: Temperatures will fall into the lower 70s, and areas of fog may redevelop.

Severe weather risk
The Storm Prediction Center has placed areas west of the Susquehanna River under a slight risk (level 2/5) for severe storms. Areas east of the river are under a marginal risk (level 1/5).
Main threats
Some thunderstorms could become severe and produce:
- Flash flooding: High chance
- Frequent lightning: High chance
- Damaging wind gusts: Moderate chance
- Large hail: Low chance
There is currently no threat of tornadoes.

Heat advisory
A heat advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday for all of south-central Pennsylvania.
Highs will be in the 90s with heat index values near 100 degrees, increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses.
The National Weather Service recommends that residents:
- Drink plenty of water.
- Take frequent breaks in air-conditioned or shaded locations.
- Limit strenuous activity during the hottest hours.
- Check on older adults and others vulnerable to heat.
- Never leave children or pets in parked vehicles.
More rain Friday?
A few showers and thunderstorms will remain possible Friday, mainly during the afternoon and early evening. The coverage and timing will depend on the speed of the cold front.
The region is not under a severe-weather outlook for Friday. High temperatures will reach the lower to middle 80s, and humidity will remain elevated.
Labor Day weekend forecast
More comfortable weather is expected for the holiday weekend as high pressure takes control.
Humidity will begin to fall Saturday as temperatures reach the lower 80s. Sunday will bring refreshing humidity levels and highs near 80 degrees.
Comfortable conditions will continue on Labor Day, with low humidity and highs in the lower 80s.
