Updates on Valve’s website hint that Steam Frame news is incoming. Revised packages for the VR headset could precede a release date and pre-order announcement. The Steam Machine experienced similar happenings ahead of its launch.
Several positive signs have already pointed to impending Steam Frame release date news. However, activity on the Valve backend may be the most encouraging development yet. Updated packages for the VR headset mirror changes seen shortly before the Steam Machine launch.
Valve dataminer Brad Lynch shared how two packages saw their first revisions in many months. It’s believed that up to 7 entries represent various configurations of the head-mounted display. These could include the confirmed 256GB and 1TB varieties, as well as SKUs with accessory kits.
The company made similar backend changes 6 days before Steam Machine pre-orders opened on June 22nd. Ahead of its debut, the manufacturer was likely preparing the site to take reservations. Then, the Linux-powered console alternative left warehouses en route to buyers on June 29th.
The pattern observed with the mini PC suggests buyers should be able to claim the VR headset the week of September 7th. Other recent leaks from insiders have identified September 14th as the Steam Frame release date.
Mounting evidence
Brad Lynch joined an August 28th Gamertag VR podcast, where he said Steam Frame reviews were already in progress. His sources hinted that by mid-September, Valve will start shipping the gear. The marketplace would barely meet its end-of-astronomical-summer deadline.
Prior to the broadcast, dataminers noticed several new videos in the ARM version of the Steam Client. The clips instructed owners on unboxing and adjusting the headset for a comfortable fit during VR gaming. They also showcased accessories like the wireless adapter and controller straps. Once again, the event mirrored leaks with the Steam Controller and Machine.
Fans can look to a series of imports for hope that Valve has stockpiled enough units to satisfy Steam Frame pre-orders. Nevertheless, despite the same slow buildup with the Steam Machine, many buyers are still waiting for their systems. A higher-than-anticipated price hasn’t deterred gamers from committing to the cube.
