Texas Republicans are split over Dallas convention packages that cost up to $100,000, with some lawmakers objecting to the price and others defending the fundraising effort. The House Republican campaign arm offered the packages, and Rep. Chip Roy of Austin said, “I saw that email traffic and I firmly rejected it.” Of the 24 Texas Republicans in the House, 13 said they plan to attend the gathering Wednesday and Thursday, while others are still working out schedules or planning to skip it. Rep. Beth Van Duyne of Irving said lawmakers can get general admission tickets, and she noted, “There’s special tiers, there’s suite tickets, there’s hotel rooms.” Politico reported the National Republican Congressional Committee was asking House members to contribute $25,000 to $100,000, and Axios later said some vulnerable incumbents were exempt from the $25,000 charge. Other Republicans said the donations help support the party, while Rep. Ronny Jackson of Amarillo has a scheduling conflict because of his daughter’s wedding.
