Two people have died and one person is in critical condition after a head-on two-vehicle collision on boulevard des Allumettières west of downtown Gatineau on Friday.
Gatineau police told Radio-Canada the collision happened shortly after midnight between chemin Vanier and boulevard des Grives.
Three occupants were taken to hospital, police reported in a media release later Friday morning. Both drivers were pronounced dead once they arrived while a passenger remains in critical condition.
Police are not identifying the victims out of respect for their families.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

Police say two vehicles were involved in a head-on collision shortly after midnight on boulevard des Allumettières, leaving two people dead and one in critical condition. The CBC’s Jodie Applewaithe reports.
Boulevard des Allumettières was closed in the area until around 11 a.m., causing traffic congestion as people avoid the busy arterial road. Chemin Vanier was also closed between Allumettières and rue De Seto.
Police also reminded the public that the law prohibits anyone from flying a drone over active police operations.
