Sitting on a fragrant pile of hay and savoring a fall outing is something we’ve sometimes seen in the movies, it’s true; characters dress in gingham and flannel and head into the forest to frolic in the fresh air.

Finding a real hayride nowadays is a different story, however. It can feel like, well, finding something tiny that’s been well hidden, much like a small object that’s inside a very large haystack.

But the Los Angeles Haunted Hayride has given Halloween fans the rare opportunity to set out into the shadowy pockets of Griffith Park for the last several years, all to soak up sights and screams while taking a spooky spin that involves actual hay.

Those spins into the shadows will begin again Sept. 18, with a wicked wrap-up Nov. 1.

The not-so-wholesome, startles-and-shivers experience won’t roam the darker stretches of the park every night during its run, keep in mind, but there are several dates on the upcoming calendar; weekend nights tend to fill up first.

This isn’t a sweet sing-along hayride from some old-fashioned film, but rather an experience rife with frights. Creatively choreographed moments and dastardly decorated scenes line the route, as well as sway poles, which are making a return to the event after more than a decade.

The Los Angeles Haunted Hayride takes guests into pernicious pockets of the park, all to deliver Halloween-style thrills.

Once you’re back in the Halloween-y hub of the action, there are other non-hay happenings to consider, if you’re brave enough: Elvira’s Trick or Treat Mayhem is a “candy-coated realm” brimming with “ghoulish goodies,” while a trip to Midnight Falls is at the trembling heart of Hellbilly Halloween.

And the new Fallen Angel maze zips guests back to the Sunset Strip for a night of metal music mayhem and frightful rituals, eek.

The Madame Aurora Séance Theater will also debut in 2026, if you’re keen to find out how Midnight Falls, the fictional and fearsome town that inspires the mythos of the Los Angeles Haunted Hayride, came to be.

“Midnight Falls has always been a town filled with secrets, and this year we’re revealing one of its biggest mysteries,” said Jen Bendik, General Manager.

“Through the new séance show, guests will uncover how the town became cursed and trapped on Halloween night in 1985.”

“And, for the first time, guests 21 and over can enjoy spirits of a different kind at new themed bars throughout the event.”

Cider and s’mores are among the seasonally perfect treats available at the multi-night event.

If you’re in the mood to ride a carousel, the event’s much-photographed Scary-Go-Round will be back to bewitch, while a S’mores Package is the appetizing option for those revelers seeking a snack break at the woodsy spectacular.

Should seasonal snacking be your main focus, there’s The Cider Mill Experience, where the chow-down focus is on apple cider doughnuts and warm sips of cider-y goodness.
