Katy Perry has opened up about her split from her ex-fiance Orlando Bloom, calling it “probably the hardest time”.
The “Firework” singer, 41, and the British Pirates of the Caribbean actor ended their relationship in 2025 after nine years together. They share a six-year-old daughter, Daisy Dove.
In a new interview with People magazine, Perry recalled being in Australia when the news of the split became public.
”My friends were all hanging out back home. I was crying and just feeling far away. But then my angels went to work. They really showed up,” she said.
Just weeks after her parting from Bloom was revealed, Perry met her current partner, former Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau.

Discussing the conclusion of her time with Bloom, Perry added: “I wouldn’t have stayed in something for nine years if there wasn’t really important things to learn. Each relationship is a teacher, right?
“I had to let it go so I could move forward. I always wanted this epic legendary love, and I was talking to my therapist about it: Everything in my life is epic, but this is kind of the missing puzzle piece – then it showed up.”
Bloom previously addressed the end of their relationship during an appearance on the Today show, emphasising that he and Perry remain on good terms.
“I’m so grateful. We have the most beautiful daughter. We’re great. We’re going to be great. Nothing but love,” he said.
Perry and Trudeau, 55, first sparked romance rumours in July after they were seen dining together at a restaurant in Montreal, Canada.
The following night, Trudeau was spotted in the crowd at Perry’s Lifetime Tour concert in the city with his teenage daughter.
The pair went public with their relationship in October 2025. They made their red carpet debut together in June at the Tribeca Film Festival premiere of her concert film, Katy Perry: The Lifetimes Tour – Live from Paris.
Trudeau and his ex-wife, Sophie Grégoire, legally separated in August 2023 following 18 years of marriage, and currently share joint custody of their three children.
In April, Trudeau’s eldest son, 18-year-old singer Xavier, gave his stamp of approval to Perry, saying on an episode of the Can’t Be Censored podcast, “She’s super nice. She’s super down to earth. She’s great. I think that my dad’s happy, so that’s important.”
Xavier revealed that his own relationship with Perry has blossomed to the point of seeking career advice from her. “When I’m really happy with a song, [I] send it [to her],” he said. “She’s always happy to give me advice or tell me what I should change.”
