2 firefighters hurt while responding to South Philadelphia row home fire

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Two firefighters were injured early Saturday while battling a fire inside a threestory row home in South Philadelphia.

The Philadelphia Fire Department responded around 5:23 a.m. to the 1000 block of Wharton Street, where crews arrived to find flames coming from the basement of an occupied dwelling. Firefighters brought the blaze under control at 5:49 a.m., according to the department.

Two firefighters suffered minor injuries during the operation and were taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation. Both were listed in stable condition. No civilian injuries were reported.

The fire displaced three residents.

The Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause and origin. No additional information has been released.
