PHOENIX, Ariz. — The ULM volleyball team (2-4) fell 0-3 (21-25, 19-25, 22-25) to Temple (4-1) on the second day of the GCU Invitational (Sept. 5).
Abby Cunningham led the Warhawk offense once again, making a team-high nine kills. She added seven digs and two blocks. Kenzie Behl, Grace Troxell, and Tatum Clay each made five kills.
Olivia Anderson had a career-high 10 digs and eight assists on the match. Morgan Howard and Eden Pietrzak each made 10 digs as well.
The Owls made an early 5-0 run to lead 7-2, but Olivia Anderson broke up the run with her first career kill. Abby Cunningham hit back-to-back kills on two assists from Anderson, to close the gap to 7-5, but Temple rebuilt a five-point lead. The Warhawks responded with an Eden Pietrzak kill and an ace from Anderson steadily getting ULM back into the set. A 4-0 run made the score 14-all just before the media timeout. The Owls reset with a timeout when their lead was cut to just one at 19-18 and went on to take the set 25-21.
The second set saw nine ties, with each team taking multiple 3-0 runs to catch up to the other. The Warhawks opened with a 3-0 lead, then trailed Temple 10-6. ULM took a 4-0 ride on blocks from Abby Cunningham, Marissa Kobelski and Grace Troxell to reach 10-all. The set remained evenly matched when two kills from Kenzie Behl made the score 15-15, and the Warhawks and Owls remained locked through 18 points. Temple broke out a 7-1 run to seal the set 25-19.
The first half of the third set was similar to the second, with six ties and five lead changes between the two teams before the media timeout. The Owls took a 15-13 lead into the break, and the Warhawks got it back to a one-point deficit on Grace Troxell’s kill (16-17). ULM attempted to capitalize on Temple’s four service errors in the last few points, but the Owls clinched the match at 25-22.
The Warhawks will finish the weekend against San Francisco tomorrow, Sept. 6. First serve is set for 1 p.m. CT (11 a.m. MT).
