Additionally, they disclosed a “classic” Star Fox entry before the reputable NateTheHate and the publisher announced it.
The leaker recently teased the Nintendo Directs, now set for September 8th and 9th. Of course, gamers are scouring malo392’s YouTube comments for more insights. One discovery came under a video that discussed a potential Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Switch 2 edition. The message reads, “No, a new Smash is in the works.”
In May 2026, insider Reece “Kiwi Talkz” Reilly also reported that a fresh Super Smash Bros. game was planned. Yet, he later cautioned that it may not be a new title.
Many fighting enthusiasts believe that an upgrade for the popular original Switch release is inevitable. Although it’s backward compatible with the new console, developers can enhance the visuals or add characters. Yet, Nintendo could opt to add a new chapter to the Masahiro Sakurai franchise instead.
What’s a realistic release date?
Unfortunately, without an upgrade in the meantime, players will likely need patience for a Super Smash Bros. Switch 2 game.
