Dallas developer Ray Washburne, co-chair of the Dallas Host Committee, said on NBC5’s Lone Star Politics Sunday that he does not expect the city to be left with a bill from the Republican convention. The host committee says it raised $45 million in private donations to help stage the two-day event starting Wednesday.
PRIVATE MONEY: Washburne said the host committee, Republican National Committee and other organizers will pick up most of the costs of the convention-style rally featuring President Donald Trump.
CITY SHARE: Dallas officials have estimated the city will spend $2.5 million on security and other event-related services. Asked whether Dallas would ultimately have to pay, Washburne said, “At the end of the day, we don’t plan on the city having to pay anything.”
WHAT’S NEXT: Organizers must complete an accounting after the convention to determine the final division of expenses. “We don’t plan on the city being on the hook for anything,” Washburne said.
