SAN ANTONIO — The Alamo City is getting a new seafood option – complete with a fresh new look. 

Captain D’s, the fast-casual seafood chain, is opening its first San Antonio restaurant Sept. 9 at 7531 Bandera Road, Suite 101. The location is also the first Captain D’s to feature the brand’s new restaurant design.

The new location will celebrate its opening with a ribbon cutting at noon hosted by Hot Henrietta and DJ Rook. Guests can also stop by between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. for door prizes and giveaways.

The new San Antonio restaurant gives Captain D’s a more modern look while keeping some of the familiar elements customers may recognize. The design includes new colors, LED accent lighting, stained concrete floors and updated backlit signage on the exterior. It also offers a drive-thru option and seats 42 people.

“We wanted to create a fresh, modern look that reflects where Captain D’s is headed while staying true to who we are,” Brad Reed, vice president of Franchise Development for Captain D’s, said in a news release.

The restaurant is owned and operated by local franchise partners Ruben Cardenas, Brian Clemens and Dave Peters. For Cardenas, bringing the restaurant to San Antonio was also a way to offer a familiar taste of home to the city’s large military community.

“Because San Antonio is Military City USA, we have a lot of people from all over the United States stationed here,” Cardenas said. “For people who grew up with Captain D’s, we’re hoping this gives them a sense of home.”

Clemens grew up in Florida and said he was surprised to learn San Antonio didn’t already have a Captain D’s. He was also a longtime fan of the chain.

“I grew up in Florida loving Captain D’s, so when I realized there was an opportunity to bring it to San Antonio, it was an easy decision,” Clemens said.

This is the partners first restaurant venture, but said they have bigger plans for the brand in San Antonio. The group plans to develop three Captain D’s locations in the area with the possibility of eventually opening 10 restaurants.

“San Antonio is growing tremendously, and we see a real opportunity here,” Cardenas said. “There aren’t a lot of fast seafood options, and we think Captain D’s will be a great addition to the community.”

The restaurant will be open daily from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
