One of the Kentucky Wildcats’ promising young talents is wishing an old friend well, even if it stings a little.

Trent Noah, the in-state freshman standout and fan favorite from Harlan County, shared his thoughts Monday on former teammate Travis Perry’s decision to leave Kentucky and transfer to Ole Miss. Perry, the state’s all-time leading high school scorer, committed to the Rebels after spending his freshman season with the Wildcats.

“It definitely stung,” Noah said. “I did everything I could to keep him here. He’s one of my good friends, and he was an excellent player. But at the end of the day, you’ve gotta do what’s best for you, and that’s what he thought was best for him. I love him and wish him the best. I’m not looking forward to playing him. That’s for sure.”

Noah said the two freshmen leaned on each other throughout their first year of college basketball, sharing advice and supporting one another. While Perry chose a fresh start elsewhere, Noah made it clear he never considered leaving Lexington.

“No. Nah. This is the greatest place on earth,” Noah said. “I love Coach Pope’s vision for me, and he sees kind of the same path that I see. That’s what we’re looking to do this year, and on the way, win No. 9.”

Kentucky fans will get their first look at the revamped roster this fall and possibly a matchup between two former teammates turned SEC rivals.
