A Cessna plane became fully engulfed in flames on the runway at the Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport in Kearny Mesa, killing two people on Monday evening, the San Diego Police Department confirmed.

The plane crashed around 5:21 p.m., SDPD said.

About 30 personnel with the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department were at the scene responding to the incident. In the meantime, the airport would be temporarily closed during emergency operations, SDFD wrote on X.
