Traffic was slowed for hours on southbound Interstate 5 in Encinitas Tuesday morning after a semi-truck loaded with ice cream tipped onto its side.
The crash occurred shortly after 5:50 a.m. near Encinitas Boulevard, the California Highway Patrol said on its online log. There was a small fuel leak, but it appeared to be contained to the traffic lane, the CHP said.
A traffic alert was issued shortly after 6 a.m. because the overturned truck and trailer were blocking several lanes, a CHP spokesperson said.
The HOV lane was the only southbound lane open.
There were no reported injuries, and it wasn’t clear what caused the crash, the spokesperson said.
