Less than two weeks remain until motorcycles take to the roads for the 11th annual Bikes for Tykes Teddy Bear Ride, a fundraiser benefiting the Children’s Advocacy Center for Rockwall County.
The event is scheduled for Sept. 20 beginning and ending at the Rockwall County Courthouse. Registration begins at 11 a.m.
The ride costs $25 per motorcycle, with each rider asked to bring a new, unwrapped soft toy. The donated stuffed animals are used to comfort children served by the Children’s Advocacy Center.
The approximately 27-mile ride will feature a full police escort. Organizers have also adjusted this year’s route to include rolling back roads and plan to have outrider escorts positioned for every 100 riders to provide additional assistance in case of an emergency.
Organizers are encouraging riders to pre-register. The first 100 preregistered riders will receive swag bags containing a T-shirt, ride pin and other items.
Last year’s 10th annual ride drew more than 400 motorcycles and collected 750 teddy bears and other stuffed animals for children. The event also raised $100,000 for the Children’s Advocacy Center.
In addition to participating in the ride, supporters can sponsor the event, donate items for the silent auction or share information about the fundraiser with friends and community groups.
