Highway 50 traffic resumes in Sacramento after standoff situation; deadly shooting nearby may be connected
One lane of traffic is moving on eastbound Highway 50 near Howe Avenue, following a standoff situation on the highway in Sacramento on Tuesday afternoon.
The law enforcement activity may be related to a deadly shooting nearby on Howe Avenue, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.
LiveCopter 3 footage after 3:20 p.m. showed law enforcement personnel surrounding a stopped vehicle with their guns drawn. Surveillance drones could be seen hovering close to the car to assist law enforcement.
Later, law enforcement personnel could be seen banging out the vehicle’s windows and then removing someone from the vehicle. The person appears to be dead.

Westbound traffic is moving again.
The traffic closure may be connected to a deadly shooting near a Panera Bread on Howe Avenue.
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said that at approximately 3 p.m., a shooting was reported in the 800 block of Howe Avenue.
Deputies found one person who was unresponsive. The Fire Department pronounced the person dead at the scene.
The sheriff’s office said an active investigation was underway, and the vehicle stop on Highway 50 was “possibly related.”
KCRA 3’s Denzen Cortez reported that investigators were focused on the corner of Howe and Northrup Avenues near the Panera Bread.
Forensic photographers could be seen taking photos.
This was the second time Highway 50 was shut down today.
Early Tuesday morning, officers from three separate law enforcement agencies shot at a driver after a pursuit that ended along Highway 50 near Hazel Avenue. The confrontation left the driver dead.
