Escaped emu safely captured by wildlife center volunteers in Lancaster County

Volunteers at Raven Ridge Wildlife Center in Lancaster County successfully captured an escaped emu on September 2 after it fled its pen during a storm.

The emu ended up behind the wildlife center, prompting the team to grab nets and large mats to corral the bird.
The team collaborated with the emu’s owner to ensure the bird remained calm and did not wander into traffic.
After nearly 30 minutes, the volunteers captured the emu using a large net. The bird dropped to the ground and sat quietly.
Three volunteers kept the emu secured in the net and lifted it into a wheelbarrow to transport it to the owner’s truck.
Raven Ridge Wildlife Center received a certificate of achievement and a stuffed emu as a token of appreciation.
