A 77-year-old man riding an e-scooter in a Brooklyn bike lane was killed in a head-on crash with a bicyclist, cops said Tuesday.
Thomas Bakas was riding his stand-up scooter in the two-way bike lane on Schermerhorn St. in downtown Brooklyn when he collided with the 47-year-old bicyclist heading in the opposite direction near Smith St. around 2:20 p.m. Monday, police said.
The cyclist struck Bakas as he merged into the bike lane after darting between two parked cars, cops said.
Both men were thrown in the crash. Neither of them wore helmets.
Medics rushed Bakas to New York Presbyterian-Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, where he died.
The bicyclist stayed at the scene. There were no immediate arrests.
Bakas lived about three blocks from where the crash occurred, officials said.
