This Saturday, residents and visitors can participate in the W.A.T.E.R. (Water Awareness Through Education and Recreation) Festival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the River Legacy Nature Center.
The free, family-friendly event will bring educational activities, crafts and demonstrations.
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s drought monitor, 49.51% of the United States is experiencing drought this week. The W.A.T.E.R. Festival aims to show the importance of water conservation, according to the River Legacy Foundation website.
Participants can also enjoy a $25 DIY rainwater harvesting class co-sponsored by Arlington Water Utilities and Tarrant Regional Water District at 1 p.m. at the center.
The class will cover how much water one’s roof sheds in a year, where to put rain barrels to capture the most water, as well as a tutorial on how to install them, and how to set up and use a new water source, according to a city release.
The class is available for Tarrant County residents only, and attendees can expect to leave the workshop with a new rain barrel.
