SAN ANTONIO – Tx — The race for governor is shaping up to be one of the closet races in decades. A new non-partisan poll shows Governor Gregg Abbott leading Democratic challenger Gina Hinojosa by just one point.

If Hinojosa wins the race for governor, she will flip Texas blue for the first time since 1990 and become he first Hispanic governor in Texas history.

Tonight the Hinojosa campaigned for votes in San Antonio ahead of the November election at the Antioch Sports and Community Complex.

She shared her plan to help Texans keep up with the cost of living by giving each Texas household $1,500 from the state’s rainy-day fun.

The one-time rebate would cost the state $17 billion.

Governor Abbott’s plan to win over voters is to make sweeping property tax cuts. He’s proposing ending school property taxes from homeowners.

Early voting begins Oct. 19, and Election Day is Nov. 3.
