Rain chances in Houston return Thursday, bringing a slight cool down from triple-digit heat

  • July 31, 2025

For the second day this year, Houston has hit 100!

After another scorcher, Houston officially tallied its second 100-degree day of the year. But here’s some good news for those tired of the heat: that triple-digit streak isn’t likely to stick around. Temperatures are forecast to dip out of the 100s, with relief on the way thanks to an expected uptick in rain and thunderstorm activity.

Thursday forecast:

A boundary is forecast to make its way into southeast Texas, bringing with it showers and thunderstorms over the next several days. This front isn’t the kind that sweeps in with cool, refreshing air—rather, it’s expected to stall across our area. That means more rounds of rain are likely, starting as early as Thursday morning with spotty showers and storms.

By Thursday night, showers are forecast to linger mainly south of Interstate 10. Heading into Friday and Saturday, the chance for rain bubbles north, with places like Trinity County, Brazos, and even Brenham expecting wet weather. Some heavy downpours are possible, especially along the coast.

Rain Returns:

Once high pressure moves out of Texas, moisture returns, increasing rain chances late week into the weekend.

Some of these storms could carry a chance for some heavier downpours by the weekend.

However, we’re just now getting into the statistical uptick of the tropical season. In fact, we’re starting to see some indication that we’ll have more activity as we get into the month of August.
