Tim Gettinger hoped to work his way back into the NHL when he signed with the Detroit Red Wings in 2023. It didn’t happen. Now the 6-6, 222-pount left wing has signed with the Schwenningen Wild Wings in Germany.
Gettinger, 27, spent the past two seasons with the Grand Rapids Griffins, tallying 19 goals and 22 assists in 109 games.
“From the very first phone call with the team, I knew that Schwenningen was the right place for me,” Gettinger said on Schwenningen’s web site. “I’ve heard nothing but good things about the city and the fantastic fans, and I can’t wait to experience it for myself.”
Gettinger appeared in 16 games with the New York Rangers over parts of four seasons from 2018-19 to 2021-22 (no goals, one assist).
“Tim made it clear to us from the start that he could very well imagine joining us,” Schwenningen’s general manager Stefan Wagner said. “We have worked closely with him and believe he can be a real asset to our team.”
