An accident occurred on June 22, when Clemmitwykie Green, a 43-year-old Jacksonville resident, was fatally injured in a collision while riding an electric scooter. The incident took place at the intersection of US 17 (North Marine Blvd.) and Gum Branch Road just after midnight.
According to the Jacksonville Police Department, Green was traveling northeast on the sidewalk along US 17 and attempted to cross Gum Branch Road. At the same time, a 2013 Kia Sedan, which had the green light, was traveling southeast from Gum Branch Road onto Bell Fork Road. The failure to yield the right of way resulted in Green colliding with the sedan. It was reported that the Green was wearing dark clothing and did not have any reflective equipment.
Green sustained serious injuries and was transported to a Naval Hospital for further medical care, where he later passed away.
This is an ongoing investigation.
