Rutgers’ basketball star Dylan Harper throws out Sunday’s first pitch at Yankee Stadium

Rutgers’ basketball star Dylan Harper throws out ceremonial first pitch at Yankee Stadium on June 22, 2025, prior to the Orioles-Yankees game.

NEW YORK – While the Yankees’ baseball operations executives were huddled in Tampa, Florida, on Thursday’s MLB trade deadline day, the team was in a rain delay at Yankee Stadium.

Thursday afternoon’s game was halted due to rain at about 2:40 p.m., with the Yankees leading the Rays, 7-4, in the bottom of the fifth inning.

After a lengthy rain delay, the Yankees announced that the game would resume at approximately 5:20 p.m.

Giancarlo Stanton’s two-run homer in the first inning and Ben Rice’s three-run homer in the second inning made it a short afternoon for Rays starter Ryan Pepiot, ultimately charged with seven runs in four innings.

Yankees starter Marcus Stroman had pitched through the fifth inning and had sailed through the first three, before Tampa Bay tagged him with four runs on five hits.

The Rays have lost three players to injury in this game, with Chandler Simpson (wrist), Yandy Diaz (forearm contusion) and Jonathan Aranda (wrist) exiting the game.
