PHOENIX – A major Arizona health care system and the state’s largest insurance company announced a last-minute deal on a new contract Thursday.
The previous agreement between HonorHealth and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona – aka AZ Blue – was set to expire on Friday.
With the new deal in place after months of negotiations, there won’t be any lapse in coverage for AZ Blue members who receive treatment from HonorHealth facilities and doctors.
HonorHealth operates nine acute-care hospitals and over 200 primary, specialist and urgent care locations in metro Phoenix and Florence.
The nonprofit health care network opened a new 100,000-square-foot campus in Peoria in April.
According to Phoenix Business Journal, AZ Blue has an estimated 1.3 million enrollees, more than twice as many as any other health insurance company in the state.
