Alice in Chains singer-guitarist Jerry Cantrell has selected Sparta to support his upcoming summer US tour, following the recent announcement that Filter were dropping off as frontman Richard Patrick recovers from spinal surgery.
The outing kicks off August 16th in San Diego, and runs through a September 14th show in Kansas City. Along the way, it will hit such cities as Austin, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Detroit, and Minneapolis, among others, with tickets available here.

Last week, Filter revealed they were dropping off the tour, stating, “Unfortunately, Filter will not be heading out on the road with Jerry Cantrell next month as previously planned. Following medical advice, Richard Patrick has been advised to not tour at this time. He had disc replacement surgery and recovery has been slower than expected. We hope to see you on tour soon!”

On Thursday (July 31st), Cantrell named Sparta as the tour’s new support act, remarking, “Excited to announce Sparta as support for the second leg of the North American I Want Blood Tour.”
Sparta are led by former At the Drive-In singer-guitarist Jim Ward, with their most recent album being their 2022 self-titled LP. Among their standout songs since forming in 2001 are “Cut Your Ribbon,” “Air,” and “Taking Back Control.”
The summer run marks the second stateside leg for Cantrell and his solo band this year, following a winter outing. Heavy Consequence caught Cantrell and company at New York City’s Irving Plaza in February. See a photo gallery, along with the summer tour dates, below.
