We now have another non-conference game confirmed for the upcoming college basketball season, as it was officially announced yesterday that Penn State and Pitt will face each other at the Giant Center in Hershey, PA on Sunday, December 21st. Tip-off time and broadcasting channel(s) will be announced at a later date.
The Panthers are coming off a 17-15 overall, and 8-12 conference record last season, as head coach Jeff Capel enters his eighth season in Pittsburgh. The last time Penn State and Pitt faced each other on the hardwood was back in 2017, when the Nittany Lions waxed the Panthers 85-54, en route to a a historically awful season for the Panthers in which they went winless in ACC play, leading to then-head coach Kevin Stallings being fired after just two seasons and the hiring of Capel.
This December will mark the 149th meeting between the two programs, with Penn State sporting a 76-72 all-time series record.
