The 12th annual “Running with the Law” event is set to take place next Tuesday, August 5th, at Riverwalk Park in downtown Jacksonville. The event will kick off with a ceremony at 6 p.m., followed by races starting at 7 p.m. Participants can choose from a 5K, 10K, or a one-mile fun run, with prizes awarded to the winners. Law enforcement officers from various agencies are expected to join the event, which is open to children as well.

Lt. Vanessa Smith of the Jacksonville Police Department said, “It helps us raise money for the North Carolina Special Olympics. So, we work very closely with them and raise money throughout the year for the Special Olympics. So, this helps us just raise more money for them to help them go to their Olympics.”

“Running with the Law” serves as the Jacksonville Police Department’s opening event leading up to National Night Out, scheduled for October 11th. Registration fees are $40 for the 5K, $50 for the 10K, and $25 for the one-mile fun run. Interested participants can register online at https://runsignup.com/Race/NC/Jacksonville/RunningwiththeLaw5K.
