Jaguars reporter on seventh training camp practice, prep for scrimmage
Jacksonville Jaguars beat reporter Demetrius Harvey breaks down the seventh day of training camp as team preps for Friday scrimmage.
The Jacksonville Jaguars are set to take the field of EverBank Stadium today at 5:30 for their stadium scrimmage.
The Jaguars are using this as a test run for a game day simulation since they’ll only have one preseason game at home. Players will be allotted time to go through pre-game workouts and the team will try to simulate game pace to give players a feel for how the real thing will feel.
The team won’t be split in half, but the offense and defense will compete and be scored as they have throughout training camp and offseason workouts.
The scrimmage will provide a chance to see Trevor Lawrence, Josh Hines-Allen, Travon Walker, Brian Thomas Jr. and Travis Etienne in action.
It’ll also be two-way star Travis Hunter’s first opportunity to potentially play on both sides of the ball during the same practice in training camp.
Hunter has parallelly split reps between offense and defense during training camp, however, he’s only been featured on both sides of the ball in the same practice once this offseason.
It was on the last day of mandatory minicamp before the team dismissed for the summer and it was in the very last plays of the last period.
“[We’ll] be able to kind of use that mock as an evaluation to see, alright, what do we need to do now? What did it look like in the scrimmage?” Coen told reporters earlier this week. “Do we need to maybe get him more on defense? Or hey, these other guys are producing and developing, and we can keep with the schedule as is.”
Travis Hunter starts day on offense
Travis Hunter starts the stadium scrimmage wearing a teal jersey, indicating he’ll be on offense. It’s expected Hunter will see time on defense at some point during the stadium scrimmage.
Arik Armstead, several others not dressed for practice
Veteran defensive lineman Arik Armstead was not in a jersey for the practice. Head coach Liam Coen said he was giving Armstead a “veteran start” to camp last week.
Other players who aren’t dressed out include: DB Caleb Ransaw (lower body), CB Montaric Brown (lower body), RG Patrick Mekari (back), OL Cole Van Lanen (shoulder), TE Hunter Long (ankle) and TE Johnny Mundt (upper body).

The Jaguars did their annual helmet walk through the tunnel with local kids and have taken the field to warm up for the stadium scrimmage.
Jacksonville Jaguars highlights from the stadium scrimmageCornerback headlines potential position battles during early days of training camp
Hunter has the potential to step up defensively as cornerback Montaric Brown suffered a lower leg injury that’ll sideline him for the duration of camp. Second-year defensive back Jarrian Jones has filled in as the next man up for the Jaguars, but the team will allow several players the chance to show what they can do.
Other positions of note include safety, running back, right guard and wide receiver behind the top four pass catchers. Pass catchers like Joshua Cephus and Eli Pancol have impressed through the early days of camp and could find themselves on the main roster depending on how the rest of their camp goes.
Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence has looked the part so far
Quarterback Trevor Lawrence has looked sharp throughout camp, only throwing one interception in the first seven practices and it was tipped at the line of scrimmage. Lawrence talked about the work he and other players put in this offseason and it has shown up in on-field success.
