“Tonight was maybe a little bit more explosive than I expected us to be in some ways,” Coen said. “That was pleasant to see. We have guys that can make explosive plays. It’s just tonight maybe it happened a little bit more than it has.”
Lawrence’s touchdowns to Thomas were for 15 and 4 yards, with the first in the first “quarter” and the second in the “second” quarter. The scrimmage’s format meant the first-team offense played against the second-team defense for much of the “mock game,” and the first-team defense played against the second-team offense.
The first team “won” the “game,” 23-9, with kicker Cam Little converting three total field goals – including one from 58 yards.
“Guys made plays and made some contested catches that they hadn’t been making at times,” Coen said. “I just thought it was cool to see all groups make some sort of a play. I thought it was well-executed for the most part.”
