San Antonio’s dining scene closed out July with a pair of upcoming restaurant openings — one a popular spot for Cajun seafood boils and the other combining green tea refreshers and Korean fried chicken in one space. Elsewhere, the event calendar is filling up with all-you-can-eat ceviche and a birthday bash from a women’s culinary organization. Read on for more essential Alamo City food news.

Openings

Local Cajun restaurant Mr. Crabby’s Seafood Kitchen & Bar is scurrying to a second outpost in the former home of Tomatillo’s. The latter vacated the 2611 SE Military Dr.#108 shell in January, consolidating operations to Brooks. New signage on the building indicates that the new restaurant is coming soon, as early as fall. Mr. Crabby’s currently has three locations in Live Oak, Laredo, and McAllen.

2025’s hottest restaurant trend is coming to the space formerly occupied by Dr. Banh Mi at 11330 Potranco Rd #101. As first reported by MySA, the storefront will host a concept combo pack of Pelicana Go, a quick-service offshoot of Pelicana Chicken, and Matcha Cafe Maiko. Combination restaurants have become all the rage in this year’s sluggish hospitality economy, ensuring foot traffic past peak dining times. The sibling restaurants are eyeing a late summer opening.
