Even after over two months have passed since Leila Alcasid’s wedding, her father Ogie Alcasid still gets emotional at the thought of her being a married woman.

This was revealed by the singer-songwriter’s wife, Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez, in a vlog interview with Aster Amoyo last July 25.

Velasquez talked about her relationship with Leila and recounted her elation when the latter told her about her then-plans to marry Mito Fabie, also known as Curtismith.

“I was very happy that she was finally settling down. It’s also because I like this guy,” Velasquez said, adding that Curtismith is a good guy who comes from a good family.

“I like him for her because he grounds her and takes care of her, the same way Leila takes care of him. They suit each other,” she continued.

But while she immediately welcomed the idea of Leila getting married, Velasquez admitted that it was not initially the same case for Ogie.

“My husband turns emotional whenever he gets reminded that his daughter already has a husband,” Velasquez said.

She then recalled how Ogie struggled with his emotions prior to Leila’s wedding in Australia.

“Before we flew to Australia, he was crying. He was saying a lot of things and lamenting how he and Leila only had around three to four years to spend time together before she moved in with Curtismith,” Velasquez recounted. “Ogie was like, ‘We only had short time to be together.’”

Velasquez got candid and said she somehow had the same sentiment on the matter, but she acknowledged it was “deeper” for Ogie because he is Leila’s father.

“But when we arrived in Australia, Ogie saw how happy the couple were during their simple wedding,” she said, recounting how there were only about 30 people in the event including Leila’s mom and sister, Michelle van Eimeren and Sarah, and their mom’s husband Mark.

“During that moment, Ogie came to understand Leila and just became happy for them,” she noted. “But every once in a while, he still cries about it.”
