Between 65 to 70 Dallas Fire-Rescue firefighters responded Saturday morning to a fire at an abandoned building in North Oak Cliff Saturday morning that also damaged a nearby apartment building.

Units were dispatched at about 6 a.m. to the building near the intersection of North Marsalis Avenue and Comal Street, according to Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesperson Jason Evans. The fire quickly elevated to a three-alarm fire, drawing the large response of firefighters, he said.

Firefighting efforts were mostly defensive, Evans said, before the fire was declared extinguished at about 7:42 a.m. The abandoned building sustained significant damage. No firefighters were injured.

A neighboring apartment complex, located at 718 North Marsalis Avenue, sustained “exposure damage,” Evans said. No injuries were reported, but Evans said five residents required assistance from the American Red Cross.
