CHICAGO (WLS) — An endangered bird was killed by a hawk at a Chicago beach, a local bird group announced.

Chicago Piping Plovers said a piping plover named “Ferris” died just six weeks after hatching at Montrose Beach on the city’s North Side.

Ferris was killed by a red-trail hawk Saturday.

The well-known piping plovers Imani and Sea Rocket laid eggs earlier this year at the beach.
