HFD firefighter injured responding to burning home in west Houston

  • August 3, 2025

A Houston firefighter was hospitalized Friday night after being injured while attempting to save someone from a housefire.

The female firefighter, who has not been identified at this time, was with Houston Fire Department Station 28.

The situation was reported at around 9:15 p.m. Friday night in the 7600 block of Wedgewood Lane in west Houston.

A 911 caller alerted authorities that there was possibly a person trapped inside the burning home. HFD responded by climbing to the roof of the home, and the firefighter was injured while coming down from the roof.

After the firefighter was hurt, a mayday was called, sending dozens more first responders to the scene.

“There were some tense moments here on the fire ground,” HFD communications director Brent Taylor said.

The injured firefighter was taken to Memorial Hermann in the Medical Center. Taylor said she is conscious and alert, and HFD sources will provide a clearer update at a later time.

No other injuries were reported, and the cause of the housefire is under investigation.
