Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute announced Wednesday that it has named its two red panda twins.
The names are Shanti and Cinder.
The twins were born to parents Sequoia and Mow Mow in May, and their names were chosen by the Smithsonian’s Council.
The Smithsonian said Shanti, the female twin, was named in honor of Shanti Malla, who was the first female forest guardian in Western Nepal.
For the male twin, Cinder’s name was inspired by his red and brown coloring.
“Personality-wise, it fits him, too; he isn’t quite as fiery as our other cub, Dolly, or as protective as Shanti, but he can still bring the heat!” The Smithsonian said on social media.
